"2 Million Minutes" Screening and Discussion

On Tuesday, May 19, 2009, IUPUI will host filmmaker Bob Compton for a screening of his film "2 Million Minutes" followed by a panel discussion. The film compares the education of high school students in the United States, China and India. More information on the film can be found at www.2Mminutes.com.

The event will start with a reception at 8:30 a.m., followed by the screening at 9 a.m. and panel discussion at approximately 10:15 a.m. It will take place in Campus Center Room 450. The event is free and open to the public.

Ball Gardens Concerts Scheduled

The Ball Gardens Free Concert Series kicks off Friday, May 15, 2009, with the Ball Gardens Salute Program from 3:30 to 4 p.m., followed by a concert featuring "Sound Scapes" performed by Doug Babb from 4 to 5 p.m. at the Historic Ball Gardens. Ball Gardens is located north of Ball Residence Hall, 1226 W. Michigan St. In case of rain, the concert will be held at Riley Outpatient Center Auditorium.

The series continues with concerts from noon to 1 p.m. at Ball Gardens according to the following schedule: Tuesday, June 16, John Vander Gheynst Jazz Quintet; Thursday, July 16, IUPUI Steel Pan Ensemble; Tuesday, Aug. 4, classical guitarist John Alvarado; Tuesday, Sept. 8, The Chatham Arch String Quartet; and Thursday, Sept. 17, IUPUI Chamber Ensemble.

All concerts are child-friendly and open to the public.

Latino Youth at Promise Set for May 16

On Saturday, May 16, 2009, IUPUI is hosting Latino Youth at Promise: The Power of Parents in Education for Latino students in grades 5 – 12, their parents, teachers, counselors, and other educators.

Guest speakers include Dr. Julio Cammarota of the University of Arizona and Dr. Michael Tapia of the University of Texas.

Ron Hunter Announces Dates for Summer Basketball Camps

IUPUI Head Basketball Coach Ron Hunter recently announced the dates for his upcoming Summer Basketball Camps to be held at the Arthur B. Glick JCC, 6701 Hoover Rd. The camps are open to children of all abilities, ages 5-17.
