Effective Intercultural Communication Program Courses Announced

The Department of Pediatrics at Riley Hospital for Children is pleased to announce its next two courses of American English Intonation: Effective Intercultural Communication for the Healthcare Professional.

The program is designed for international medical students, residents, fellows, postdocs and faculty at Indiana University School of Medicine and Clarian Health Hospitals. The goal of this instruction is to make each participant’s speech more comprehensible through modification — not elimination — of the international accent.

The lengths, days, dates, and times are as follows:

• 12 weeks, Tuesdays, May 5 — July 21, 3-4:30 p.m. (Focus: Non-clinicians)
• 8 weeks, Thursdays, Aug 6 — Sept 24, 5-7 p.m. (Focus: Clinicians)

Class size is limited and registration is required. Registration fee is $180 if payment is received at least two weeks prior to start date; or $220 if payment is received within two weeks of start date.

CARA Fashion Show Set for May 21

The 28th Annual Championship Auto Racing Auxiliary (CARA) will be held at the Indiana Roof Ballroom, Thursday May 21. The Fashion Show raises funds to support children's charities and CARA programming in the central Indiana community (home of the Indianapolis 500). In 2009, CARA Charities is pleased to again support its central Indiana partner organizations Riley Hospital for Children, Riley Hospital for Children at Methodist, the Cody Unser First Step Foundation, and the Lyn St. James Foundation. 10th Annual Racing to Recovery Gala

The 10th Annual Racing to Recovery Gala hosted by the Sam Schmidt Paralysis Foundation. The event will be held at the Ritz Charles in Carmel, Indiana on Wednesday, May 13, 2009.

Besides food, fun and socializing, annual gala includes awards and a silent auction to benefit research. The foundation helps individuals overcome spinal cord injuries and other neurological disorders by funding scientific research, medical treatment, rehabilitation and technological advances.
