IUPUI head men's basketball Coach Ron Hunter will be a top honoree at the 29th Annual Minority Business and Professional Achievers Recognition Awards Dinner, presented by the Center for Leadership Development.
Hunter, will receive the "Accomplished Achievement Award," the top award presented to a man, during the recognition ceremony at 6 p.m. on Monday, March 23, 2009, in the Sagamore Ballroom of the Indiana Convention Center in downtown Indianapolis.

Facebook Adds New International Twist as Professor Teaches Social Problems Course One last Time

David Ford, Professor and Associate Dean of Research & Graduate Programs in the IU School of Liberal Arts at IUPUI, has added a new twist to a sociology course he is teaching one last time before he retires in the fall.
To engage students through technology and add an international element to the class that examines social problems, Ford turned to Facebook, a social networking website, as a platform to connect his students in Indianapolis with students in Mexico, China and Kenya.

IUPUI Psychology Professor Charles Goodlett and William P. Hetrick, associate professor of psychology and neuroscience at IU-Bloomington, are among 12 teams of Indiana scientists who have been awarded the first grants from the Indiana Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute (CTSI). The title of their project is "Translational Evaluation of Secretin's Effects on Cerebellar Function."

Campus, city and museum workers collaborated on the flight that brought the 24' x 40' x 30' "East Gate West Gate" sculpture by artist Sasson Soffer sculpture from the Indianapolis Museum of Art to IUPUI.

IUPUI Math Department Hosts State's Largest Mathematics Meeting
Indiana's largest meeting of mathematicians and mathematics professionals was hosted by the Department of Mathematical Sciences on the IUPUI campus March 20-21, 2009. Researchers and math educators from across the state presented talks on a range of topics, including biological modeling, inquiry-based, interactive mathematics and the intersection of mathematics, computer science and art.

IUPUI Police Reports Thefts from Vehicles Down 50%
The IUPUI Police investigated approximately 40 thefts from vehicles January through mid March 2008. This increase prompted the department to adjust patrols and issue a crime alert warning the community of the increase and encouraging people to secure their vehicles and keep valuables out of public view.
