Dr. Irene Queiro-Tajalli of the Indiana University School of Social Work, is the recipient of the 2009 Joseph T. Taylor Award for Excellence in Diversity.
The award was presented to Dr. Queiro-Tajalli, a faculty member at IUPUI since 1980, at the 20th Annual Joseph Taylor Symposium on February 26 at the Campus Center at IUPUI.

Forensic Science Labs in Indiana Face Same Shortcomings as Those Identified in National Report

Forensic science laboratories in Indiana face the same problems, shortcomings and issues that were identified in a national report, said a leading forensic science expert at IUPUI.
Jay A. Siegel, chair of the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology and director of the Forensic and Investigative Sciences program in the Purdue School of Science at IUPUI, is a member of the National Research Council committee that issued the report February 18, 2009 that calls for broad changes in the nation’s forensic science system.

IUPUI set the gold standard for university events calendars and earned merit awards for its Video Portal and Annual Report in the oldest, largest and most prestigious advertising awards competition in the United States.
"We are very proud of our continued success in this competition from the IUPUI electronic communications team,” said Troy Brown, executive director of the Office of Communications and Marketing. “We continue to impact the cutting edge of new media communications delivery in higher education."
The 24th annual Admissions Advertising Awards, sponsored by the Higher Education Marketing Report, attracted more than two thousand entries from more than 1,000 colleges, universities and secondary schools from all fifty states and several foreign countries.

Hiroshima Video Conference

Hiroshima Video Conference: During a live video conference addressing an IUPUI audience, Takashi Teramoto, a survivor of the August 6, 1945 bombing of Hiroshima, Japan, described the events of that day and his life in the years after the bombing. An overflow crowd of area high school students, IUPUI faculty, staff and students, and members of the Indianapolis community attended the event broadcast from the Hiroshima Peace Museum in Japan to the IUPUI Office of International Affairs.
The Feb. 24 event was the museum’s very first live video conference linking a bomb survivor to an outside audience.

IUPUI Women to Receive Torchbearer's Awards
Indiana Commission on Women will honor four IUPUI women during the annual Torchbearers Awards ceremony on March 3, 2009. The ceremony recognizes women from around the state who have overcome obstacles and made Indiana a better place to live, work and raise a family.
Dr. Margaret Bythe and Dr. Mary Rouse, both of the IU School of Medicine, will receive Torchbearer Awards. Cora Griffin, a sophomore in the School of Public and Environmental Affairs at IUPUI, is a finalist for the Young Woman of Promise Award.
