Voices at Risk - Human Rights in Troubled Societies Series Starts Feb. 11
IUPUI office of International Affairs and NYU Scholars at Risk Network will feature voices from embattled areas around the world in a series of events beginning Feb. 11.
Galina Shaton, from Belarus (former Soviet Union), will be the featured speaker during a teleconference at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2009, in ES 2132. Shaton will discuss human rights and share some of her experiences from the former Soviet Union.
Shaton holds a doctorate in philosophy and has written more than 64 articles on civic and foreign language education and globalization. She helped establish ENLIVA University, the first private women's university in the former Soviet Union.
This Voices at Risk event is open to everyone. Future events are expected to host speakers from various countries such as Iran, Georgia, Zimbabwe, Uyghur, Syria, Sri Lanka and Kenya.

Nominations Open for 2009 Women's Leadership Awards
As a part of the Women's History Month observance at IUPUI, the campus will recognize women leaders for their contributions to the IUPUI community. All IUPUI students, faculty and staff may nominate women leaders for the awards.
For faculty and staff nominations, go to the IUPUI Office for Women Web site under the "Leadership" page at: http://ofw.iupui.edu/leadership.asp. Click on "Nomination Form."
All nominations are due by 5 p.m., Friday, Feb. 27, 2009.

This year's Spirit & Place Festival theme is "Inspiring Places." The deadline for applications is 5 p.m. Friday, March 6, 2009.
