Volunteer Opportunities at the Natatorium
This upcoming swim season the Natatorium at IUPUI is hosting two major meets, and would like your help.
Volunteers are needed for the Big East Swimming and Diving Championship, Feb 18-21, 2009; and the USA Swimming Speedo Championship Series, March 26-29, 2009.
Volunteers are needed for morning and evening sessions of each meet.

January Softball Clinic
The IUPUI softball program will host an All Skills Camp on Jan. 31, 2009, in The Jungle.
The camp is open to girls ages 5-18. The cost is $35 per camper.

Lunch Time Yoga Offered
HRA Work/Life, Intramural and Recreational Sports, and the Student Wellness Coalition offer ongoing yoga classes.
The spring classes start today (Monday, Jan. 12, 2009). Registrants pay the semester recreation fee ($80 for staff/faculty; $29 for students) and may then attend the 12:05-12:45 p.m. classes in the Campus Center on Mondays and Thursdays; and the Union Building Room 130 on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Reading at the Table
Jason Eberl, author of "Star Trek and Philosophy," will be featured at the University Faculty Club of Indianapolis' Reading at the Table on Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2009, from 11:30 to 1 p.m. in IP 200, located on the second floor of the University Place Conference Center.
Eberl, associate professor and graduate co-director in the Department of Philosophy, says philosophy and space travel are characterized by the same fundamental purpose: exploration.

Scholarship at Lunch
The University Faculty Club of Indianapolis will present Scholarship at Lunch Time on Jan. 15, 2009, from noon to 1 p.m.
Michelle P. Salyers, School of Science, will discuss "The ACT Center of Indiana: Integrating Research and Practice in Mental Health Recovery."
All SALT events are held at The Faculty Club, which is located on the second floor of the University Place Conference Center in IP 200.

Taking Adversity Out of Diversity

TRiO Educational Opportunities Day
TRiO's Annual Educational Opportunities Day will be held in the ICTC Auditorium, Room 152, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 27, 2009.
The event features motivational speakers, student presentations and refreshments.
Speakers from Student Support Services, Upward Bound, and the IUPUI McNair Scholars Program will be available to answer questions and give advice.

School of Medicine Diversity Week 2009
Four lunchtime speakers are scheduled as part of the seventh annual observance of Diversity Week at IU School of Medicine. The noon presentations will be in the Emerson Hall auditorium. Lunch will be provided. Speakers and their topics:
Jan. 20 – Joye Maureen Carter, MD, chief forensic pathologist, Marion County Coroner's Office and director of the forensic pathology fellowship program at IUSM, "Death, the Ultimate Test of Diversity."
Jan. 21 – Olveen Carrasquillo, MD, MPH, associate professor of medicine and health policy, Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and director of the Columbia Center for the Health of Urban Minorities, "Addressing Health Disparities: Are We On Track?"
Jan. 22 – Melissa C. Green, PhD, director of the division of science and technology, United Negro College Fund Special Programs Corporation, Fairfax, Va., "A Neglected Responsibility: Diversity in STEM Education."
Jan. 23 – Alexa Canady, MD, pediatric neurosurgeon, Sacred Health Medical Group, Pensacola, Fla., and educator, topic to be announced.
