Effective Intercultural Communication Program Starts Jan. 6The Department of Pediatrics at Riley Hospital for Children is proud to announce open enrollment for the next class of American English Intonation: Effective Intercultural Communication. The course is designed for international medical students, residents, fellows, postdocs and faculty at Indiana University School of Medicine. The purpose of this program, beginning Jan. 6, 2009, is to enhance the participants' professional communication with colleagues, patients and staff. Students learn to minimize their non-native accents, thus bringing the focus back to their exceptional academic abilities and increasing their opportunities for professional advancement. The next class runs 3 to 4:30 p.m. Tuesdays for 12 weeks, beginning Jan. 6. Class size is limited. Registration for all 12 classes is $180; or $220 after Dec. 26, 2008. A New IUPUI Events CalendarThe Office of Communications and Marketing is pleased to announce the launch of a new IUPUI Events Calendar. The IUPUI Events Calendar serves the greater IUPUI community as well as external parties for publication of events. The new system will offer many new features and enhanced control by calendar administrators. The system is set to launch this month. IUPUI JagTag Employee Deduct ProgramJagTag is first and foremost the IUPUI campus ID, but did you know that your JagTag can also be used as a payment card? For IUPUI employees, a payment option allows employees to make purchases with JagTag. Those purchases are then deducted from the employee's paycheck. Jagtag is now an accepted form of payment both on and off campus at places such as the campus bookstore, dining areas and vending machines, as well as Jimmy John's, Au Bon Pain and others. IUPUI Top 100 AnnouncedThe IUPUI Alumni Council and the Student Organization for Alumni Relations (SOAR) recently announced the 2009 IUPUI Top 100 Outstanding Students. Please visit the IUPUI Office of Alumni Relations Web site to view the complete list of students: http://www.alumni.iupui.edu/top100.html. Successful candidates for this award had experience and/or performance in three categories: scholastic achievement, collegiate and co-curricular activities, and civic/community service. Each eligible nomination was viewed by three judges. The 10th annual IUPUI Top 100 Outstanding Students Recognition dinner will take place on Friday, April 3, 2009, at The Marriott in downtown Indianapolis.
