Cultural Arts Gallery to Exhibit Study Abroad Photos

An exhibit featuring photos taken by IUPUI students while studying abroad will be on display in the Campus Center Cultural Arts Gallery, CE 240, Oct. 27 through Nov. 8, 2008.

The photos, which span several years, will include quotes from the students about their experiences abroad. The students represent a broad range of IUPUI schools including business, law, nursing, physical education, Herron, informatics and liberal arts.

Admission to the exhibit is free of charge and open to the general public.

The exhibit is open for viewing during regular IUPUI Campus Center hours. For hours, call (317) 278-2533.

Conversation at Tea Time Features Christopher Foley

The Faculty Club will be hosting Conversation at Tea Time featuring Christopher J. Foley, director of undergraduate admissions, from 4 to 5:30 p.m., on Nov. 5, 2008, in the UFCI.

The topic of discussion will be "Sculpting a Class: Shaping the Enrollment at IUPUI."

Challenge of the IUPUI Deans – Oct. 26

Dean Oner "Mario" Yurtseven of the School of Engineering & Technology and Bob "A.J." White, former dean of the School of Liberal Arts, will challenge each other to a speed contest.

The racing event, the Indianapolis Region Solo Series, will take place Oct. 26, rain or shine. The race strats at 10:15 a.m. at Grissom Aeroplex in Peru, Ind. Registration for the race begins at 8 a.m., followed by a driver's meeting at 10 a.m.

IUPUI spectators are admitted free of charge, but should say they are with the IUPUI team and Professor Pete Hylton. Anyone entering the event site must sign an SCCA waiver, and anyone under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian who can sign on their behalf.

The Grissom Aeroplex, is located along highway US 31 approximately 10 miles north of Kokomo, Ind. To enter the site, turn east on the main road nearest the large water tower (not the Grissom Museum). Then take the first right (north) and follow the SCCA signs and pylons.

Alzheimer's: Prevention Strategies and Caregiver Resources

Human Resources offers Community Conversations, a free HRA Work/Life lunch time series for staff/students/faculty caring for a person with Alzheimer's disease.

The workshop offers a legal/financial session helpful to all those approaching their senior years. One session – Maintain Your Brain – is useful for all persons who want to learn about how lifestyle affects brain health.

Law Professors to Present Economy Roundtable

Faculty of the IU School of Law – Indianapolis will gather to discuss their analyses of current economic problems and to answer questions in a roundtable discussion format.

A roundtable discussion, "The Economic Crisis and the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008," will take place from 4 to 5:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 23, 2008, in the Wynne Courtroom of Inlow Hall, the IU School of Law-Indianapolis building, 530 W. New York St.

Topics for discussion include the mortgage crisis to financial meltdown, understanding the mortgage crisis, and more.

Applications for CLE credit will be made available at the event.

A Discussion with Two Political Observers

Two IUPUI political observers will discuss the 2008 national elections during upcoming campus presentations.

Leslie Lenkowsky, professor of public affairs and philanthropic studies and director of graduate programs for the Indiana University Center on Philanthropy, and Brian Vargus, professor of political science, will share their perspectives on the elections from noon to 1 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 23, 2008, and from noon to 1 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 6, 2008. Both discussions will take place in the IUPUI Campus Center, Room 148. The events are free and open to the general public.

Prior to joining the Indiana University faculty in 1997, Professor Lenkowsky was president of the Hudson Institute, an internationally renowned public policy research institution.

Vargus is frequently quoted by media outlets such as CBS/NBC/ABC National News, Public Broadcasting, the New York Times, the Washington Post, USA Today, and others--both national and international.
