Inside IUPUI Impact Person of the Week

Malene Abell (second from left), Purdue School of Science, was featured as the IUPUI Impact person of the week during the Colts Oct.12, 2008, home game.

Intrigued by the prospect of helping people with brain injuries, Abell, then an art director, wanted to become a clinical neuropsychologist.

She left advertising and took on a new college career, eventually studying the early recovery phase of patients with brain injuries under an undergraduate research fellowship with the Rehabilitation Hospital of Indiana.

Abell's award-winning research project for her senior thesis has helped RHI improve patient care through more focused screenings of patients and their medication schedules.
