Using PDF Files
Portable Document Format (PDF) files retain their original format wherever they are viewed or printed. This makes PDF ideal for making documents available over the Web.
In order to view PDF files, you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader for your Web browser. Many browsers already have this plug-in. If yours does not, you can download it for free. IUPUI students, staff, and faculty can contact the UITS Support Center for assistance.
Not all Web browsing software used by the blind or visually impaired can read PDF files directly. Adobe Systems provides a variety of ways to overcome this. These are explained at access.adobe.com.
Blind or visually impaired people can download an Adobe accessibility plug-in for Windows browsers on the Adobe Website. It is also possible to convert individual PDF files to HTML over the Web, using an online conversion form provided by Adobe Systems. Please, use this form only if you are blind or visually impaired. The converted documents are specially formatted for Web browsing software used by people with visual disabilities. Use of the online conversion form by others may slow down access for those who truly need it.
