CAMPUS LIFE
1. Operation Rapid Response emergency preparedness exercise planned June 25 at IUPUI
Indiana University Emergency Management and Continuity will conduct a full-scale emergency preparedness exercise on the campus of Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis on Tuesday, June 25.

Operation Rapid Response is a drill only and has been planned for six months.

The simulated incident will take place during the work day in an undisclosed building on campus. It will call into play IU Police Department Indianapolis, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, Indianapolis Fire Department, Indianapolis EMS, IUEMC and IU Communications at IUPUI.

2. Campus Center Hiring for Federal Work Study Positions for Fall 2013
The Campus Center has several openings for the Information Desk or on the Operations Crew for the 2013-2014 academic year. Candidates must have Federal Work Study as part of their financial aid package. Applications are being accepted until Monday, July 15, but review of applications and interviewing will begin immediately. Hiring will be completed prior to the beginning of the 2013 fall semester. 4. UK Ambassador to speak at IUPUI
Did you know British-based companies employ more than 29,000 Hoosiers? Learn about Indiana's economic role with the United Kingdom and the impact of free trade on both the U.S. and U.K. during an upcoming visit by British Ambassador Sir Peter Westmacott. From 10 to 11 a.m. June 21 in room 132 in Hine Hall, Westmacott will touch on these issues and take questions from the audience and from those on Twitter who use the hashtag #GlobalIndy. Follow live-tweeting of the event on the @IUPUI Twitter handle.

5. Employee Parking Permit Options
Employee parking permits expire June 30, 2013. Don't forget to renew on the Parking Services website.

10. USA Football Camp Coming to IUPUI
From July 8 to 12, the IUPUI Sport Complex will be hosting a USA Football FUNdamentals camp. Certified clinicians from USA Football will use a series of drills to show passing, catching and running skills in a non-contact setting. All drills are selected and based on USA Football's Player Progression Development Model ensuring children are learning in an age-appropriate manner and creating an ideal atmosphere for FUN!

11. Writing from the Reader's Perspective with Dr. George Gopen
This event will take place on Tuesday, July 9 and Wednesday, July 10 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
As competition for external funding becomes more challenging, getting one's scholarly work successfully published is more important than ever. Dr. Gopen's approach is based on a single idea: learning to write for the reader allows the writer to control what readers learn.
As in past years, Dr. Gopen will also conduct hour-long, individualized consultations.

12. Learn how to create elearning with Captivate!
Do you find yourself repeatedly having to demonstrate how to do something on the computer? Do you want to deliver an enhanced PowerPoint presentation over the web? 13. Get help on your grad school application
Come to Graduate School Boot Camp on Friday, July 12th from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Campus Center to get help with applying to grad school. Graduate admissions experts will work with you on your personal statement as well as provide tips on CV and exam preparation, funding considerations, letters of recommendation and more! Registration is required. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. A draft of your personal statement must be submitted prior to the event.

16. Herron furniture exhibit highlights professor Phil Tennant's legacy
"Experimental: The Work of Phil Tennant With Selected Herron Alumni" runs June 14 through July 25 at Herron School of Art and Design, 735 W. New York St., on the Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis campus. The exhibit features an entry table and other furniture designed by Tennant, along with the works of several Herron furniture design alumni.

Tennant founded Herron School of Art and Design's furniture design program and helped grow the Herron program into one of the top programs in the United States. The upcoming exhibit is a testimony to the professor's legacy.

17. This is Home: An Exhibition of Refugee Art
Come and see the new exhibit in the Cultural Arts Gallery at IUPUI titled "This is Home: An Exhibition of Refugee Art", from June 17 to July 3. This exhibit, presented by Exodus Refugee Immigration, features over a dozen talented refugees who articulate their concept of home through their preferred art medium. Their compelling work is a testament to the power of their stories and the strength of the human spirit. The exhibit's open reception will take place on June 18th, 6 to 8 p.m.

20. Research Study for Children with ADHD
Investigators at IU School of Medicine Department of Psychiatry are conducting a research study for children aged 10 to 14 with suspected ADHD and mood swings. The study examines the effect of an FDA approved medication on a child's ability to regulate their emotions. This study involves six visits to our clinic and two MRI brain scans. 21. Research Study for Children with ADHD, ODD, or Conduct Disorder
Investigators at IU School of Medicine Department of Psychiatry are conducting a research study for children aged 10 to 14 with suspected ADHD, ODD, or CD and healthy control children with no psychiatric disorders or addiction history in their family. The study examines a child's risk for drug addiction based on whether or not they have a father with a history of substance abuse. This study involves one visit to our clinic and up to two MRI brain scans. Call 317-948-3472 for more details.

22. Type 2 Diabetes Research Study
IUSM Department of Pediatric Endocrinology/Diabetology is looking for individuals who were diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes PRIOR to age 18 to participate in a study requiring only one visit. The goal of the study is to learn more about the relationships between certain genes and Type 2 diabetes. 23. Research Study for Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE)
Doctors at IU School of Medicine, Department of Rheumatology are conducting a research study of an investigational medication for adults ages 18 and older with Lupus. The study involves up to 17 visits over 52 weeks. Participants will receive study procedures and medication or placebo at no charge. Visits will occur at IU Hospital, 550 University Blvd, Indianapolis, IN. Subjects will receive $40 per visit for travel and parking. Please contact Sara Hanson at 317-278-9216 or sarahans@iu.edu.
24. African American Healthy Volunteers Needed for Brain Imaging Studies!
IU Psychotic Disorders Program seeks healthy volunteers to participate in a research study using brain scans (MRI). If you are: age 18-23, male, African-American, not on prescription medications and have no psychiatric illness you may qualify. The study consists of questionnaires, an interview, and one MRI. You will be compensated for your time!

25. Exercise and Driving Safety in Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA)
The IUPUI Departments of Kinesiology and Electrical/Computer Engineering are seeking volunteers to determine if a single exercise session improves driving performance in individuals diagnosed with OSA. If you are between 18-65 years of age, have been diagnosed by a sleep physician with moderate-severe OSA, and are not currently being treated with continuous positive airway pressure, you may qualify for the study.
