Psychology is defined as the scientific study of behavior and mental processes. Psychology seeks to describe, understand, predict, and to change –where appropriate – behaviors and mental processes. Psychologists use many methods to accomplish these goals, including laboratory experiments, observations, and psychotherapy. There are two primary types of psychologists: research psychologists and applied psychologists.
See University College's Checksheets page for Admissions and Certification information.
Psychology majors take one of two paths when they graduate. One path leads to professions such as clinical psychology, counseling, medicine and health professions, law, and social work that require further educational preparation (graduate or professional degree). The other path leads to careers that use the skills acquired during the bachelor’s degree program. An example of these occupations include: Substance Abuse Counselor, Crisis Clinician, Pharmaceutical Sales Representative.
