Undergraduate Majors : Fitness Studies


Description

The fitness studies track is directed to those interested in personal fitness training, sports programming, entrepreneur activities related to fitness and sports, and related fields.

Admissions/Certification

For students admitted to University College or another IUPUI academic school other than Physical Education, a student must meet the following requirements to certify into the School of Physical Education:

  • Declare Fitness Studies major
  • Complete 12 credit hours
  • 2.2 Minimum grade point average
  • Complete ENG-W 131
  • Ready for Math 111

What can you do with this major?

Fitness Studies graduates are qualified for employment in these areas:

  • Club Industry
    • Working as director or assistant director of a fitness center
    • Working as a club personal trainer or exercise leader
  • Corporate Fitness
    • Working as a staff member in a corporate fitness center
  • Youth Fitness
    • Working in camps
    • Working in youth agencies, such as YMCA’s, Boys & Girls Clubs, Parks & Rec
  • Geriatric Fitness
    • Working in retirement centers or communities as fitness program director, coordinator, or leader
  • Personal Training
    • Working with clients/athletes one on one in developing their fitness programs
  • Sales
    • Working for sport and fitness companies in sales of their products
