Health and Life Sciences Scholarships

Health & Life Science Scholarship (freshmen)
Up to $2,500 in-state/$5,000 out-of-state per year, renewable for 4 years Deadline: February 1st, admission and application The Health & Life Science Scholars Program is designed for beginning freshmen in the health and life science majors. Contingent upon availability of funds, a Health and Life Science Scholar who is a beginning major may supported up to eight regular (fall/spring) semesters provided that the student continues in a degree program in a health or life science and maintains an overall minimum GPA of 3.5. An applicant must be in the top 25% of their high school graduating class and have a minimum SAT score of 1200 or ACT score of 26. An award recipient may hold only one scholarship funded by the School of Science. Application, essay, transcript, and two letters of recommendation must be received by the Office of Student Scholarships by the deadlines listed above.

*Dean of Science Scholarships (freshmen)

These competitive scholarships provide awards of up to $2,500 per academic year renewable up to $10,000. Contingent upon availability of funds, a Dean’s Scholar who is a beginning major may be supported for up to eight regular (fall/spring) semesters provided that the student continues in a degree program in the School of Science and maintains an overall GPA of at least 3.5. An applicant must be in the top 25% of the high school graduating class and have a minimum SAT score of 1200 or ACT score of 26. An award recipient may hold only one scholarship funded by the School of Science. Health and Life Science Scholarship (Continuing Students)
Up to $2,500 Deadline: May 15th The Health & Life Science Scholars Program is designed for students majoring in the health and life sciences. These competitive scholarships provide awards of up to $2,500 per academic year. Continuing health and life science majors with a minimum of 25 credit hours completed at IUPUI by the end of the spring semester during which application is being made and at least a 3.5 GPA may apply for this competitive scholarship. Contingent upon availability of funds, a Health and Life Science Scholar may be supported for additional years provided that the student has eligible unspent funds, continues in a degree program in a health or life science field, and maintains an overall GPA of at least 3.5. An award recipient may hold only one scholarship funded by the School of Science. Application, resume, essay and two letters of recommendation, one of which must be from a fulltime faculty member, must be received by May 15th. Challenger Scholarship
Tuition and stipend Deadline: February 22nd Established in memory of the Challenger crew, this scholarship supports students majoring in sciences, engineering or social sciences, with intent to pursue a teaching career at any level–elementary to graduate. Teach Science – Noyce Scholarship
This scholarship program is funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF). At IUPUI, it is designed to encourage and support outstanding Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Earth Science students who have a desire to teach middle school and/or high school science. Noyce Scholars will graduate with a BA or BS degree in science as well as a secondary science teaching certification. These competitive scholarships will provide annual awards of $10,200 each year for up to two years, and may also include up to two $2,000 summer scholarships for students taking summer courses. Scholarship recipients will agree to teach for 2 years in a high-need school district after graduation for every year of scholarship. Applicants from under-represented minority groups are encouraged.

Application deadlines: MARCH 15 – For scholarships beginning the following FALL semester. Students must apply to the Secondary Teacher Education Program by February 7. OCTOBER 15 – For scholarships beginning the following SPRING semester. Student must also apply to the Secondary Teacher Education Program by September 7.

Scholarship Eligibility:

Eligible students will

  • Enroll as a full-time student in the IUPU I School of Science and maintain an overall GPA of 2.9 / 4.0*.
  • have successfully completed at least 60 credit hours
  • apply to the Learning to Teach/Teaching to Learn program* (offered through the Indiana University School of Education @ IUPUI) by February 7 for fall admission or September 7 for spring admission
  • be a citizen or permanent resident on the U.S.

*The Noyce Scholarship is renewable only if the recipient continues in good standing with the School of Science and the School of Education, and continues to pursue an academic plan leading to a licensed certification as a science teacher. *DJ Angus-Scientech Education Foundation Scholarship
Up to $2,500 Deadline: May 15 The DJ Angus-Scientech Education Foundation Scholarship in the School of Science recognizes science students attending IUPUI who excel academically, show promise of success in their future careers and require financial assistance to attend college. The DJ Angus-Scientech Education Foundation Scholarship recipient will receive a scholarship payable in two installments, one installment per semester. Applicants must 1) be School of Science majors on the IUPUI campus, 2) be graduates of a high school which is located in Boone, Hamilton, Hancock, Hendricks, Johnson, Madison, Marion, Morgan or Shelby county, 3) be working toward completion of a first baccalaureate degree, 4) have completed at least 25 credit hours of course work at IUPUI by the time of application, 5) have an overall minimum grade point average of 2.80 by the time of application, and 6) qualify for financial aid. School of Nursing Bettie Kramer Scholarship

To be eligible for this scholarship you must meet the following criteria:

  • The scholarship will be made available to freshman who have declared an intent to pursue nursing. Students must also be pursuing an associate or baccalaureate nursing degree at any Indiana University campus.
  • Demonstrate financial need.
  • Demonstration of potential to succeed in nursing through high school GPA, leadership abilities, or other life experiences.
  • Scholarship will be renewable throughout the recipient’s undergraduate career as long as he/she maintains demonstrable need and satisfactory progress toward the nursing degree.
  • High School transcript must be attached (may be a copy).

School of Nursing Roy and Peggy Echols Scholarship

To be eligible for this scholarship you must meet the following criteria:

  • Currently enrolled as a 1st year student in a baccalaureate nursing program at any IU School of Nursing campus.
  • In most cases student will enter as a freshmen and each student will be eligible for scholarships in successive years, if satisfactory progress towards Bachelor in Nursing degree is achieved.
  • American citizen and Resident of Indiana.
  • Demonstrate financial need

School of Nursing Shirley Crutchfield Mehleck Scholarship

To be eligible for this scholarship you must meet the following criteria:

  • Currently accepted or enrolled as an undergraduate nursing student at any Indiana University campus.
  • Freshman students may apply for use in sophomore year (1st year) in the School of Nursing
  • Demonstrate financial need.
