The Kavity Killas, Dentistry's top team, posted the day's fastest time in its first heat and kept rowing to the title.
Blue skies, white clouds, good food and loads of fun made the day a celebration.
The eventual champs blaze away from the start/finish line in their opening run down the canal.
Herron's annual en Plein Aire competition gave the event an artist's eye view.
The heats down the canal weren't the only 'competition' going on.
Another heat prepares to answer the starting horn -- the very LOUD starting horn!
As always, several teams found themselves a bit askew during their races.
Executive Vice Chancellor Nasser Paydar captured the spirit of the day with his attire ...
... but other fans preferred a different kind of 'spectacle.'
The racing got hot and heavy throughout the day as teams jockeyed for position on the water.
The Spruance Basin, site of the start and finish lines, also was 'home' to the IUPUI swimming and diving teams that helped the rowers.
'Kids' of all ages decided to try a different look via the face painting booth ...
... and IUPUI mascots Jinx and Jawz entertained the crowds, especially the youngest fans.
The digital timing system (center) was a new feature that had the teams checking their times even more closely ...
... but when the heats started, it was all about position on the canal.
Crossing the start-finish line brought an array of reactions, including some who dared gravity by standing in the canoe.
Even in the midst of the Downtown Canal's premier water event, you can never quite escape the lure of basketball.
The timing system was tied into display boards that gave teams an exact picture of where they stood.
The opening ceremonies had colorful display of national pride.
The setting of IUPUI Regatta is spectacular, from Fairbanks Hall on the east side of Spruance Basin ...
... to the city skyline to the south ...
... and the IUPUI, IU and IU Health buildings surrounding the Spruance Basin.
Teams were already discussing plans for next year as the fourth annual Regatta wound down ...
... but the Kavity Killas were content to celebrate this year's triumph.
