Hot August days are made for the annual Ice Cream Social
The Student Employment Fair is a popular stop for new students looking for guidance.
The New Student Welcome event helped launch this year's Weeks of Welcome, with a wealth of activities on hand.
Chancellor Charles Bantz (center) and Zeb Davenport (right), the Vice Chancellor for Student Life, helped greet incoming students.
Some students were eager to challenge the 'bucking bronc.'
Beautiful blue skies greeted the many physical challenges offered.
There were cerebral challenges, too ...
... and some awaited an unfortunate fate with one wrong move.
Every year, dances and other physical efforts are part of the fun ...
... and despite the 'work,' smiles abound.
Some of the competitions were new this year ...
... while others challenged students' artistic skills.
Any student that wanted to contribute a thought or image could ...
... which produced an intriguing outcome.
Everyone seems ready to plunge into the new year ...
... and a cross-section of activities and student groups.
A lot of time was spent making new friends and getting reacquainted with old ones ...
... and Jawz, the IUPUI mascot, made sure everyone enjoyed themselves.
the student employment fair gives new students a feel for their options ...
... and there are many of them available.
Students can talk one-on-one with potential employers ...
... or in small groups.
Students have access to a lot of information to guide them ...
... but there is plenty to think about ...
... before signing up for one option or another.
Some options include those with a military background.
Others look in a business or service direction.
There can even be an international flavor to available choices for 2012-13 activities.
Ice cream from the IUPUI Ice Cream Social helped smooth out a day of information-gathering.
Sometimes, booth workers 'wear' their message ...
... and the wearers can come in all shapes, sizes and super-skills.
Weeks of Welcome has become a traditional meeting place for students with all sorts of interests ...
... and sharing those interests with others is a great start to the year.

Keeping track of all the information can be daunting.
Meanwhile, the chancellor was still dipping ice cream to hungry students.
