Indiana basketball legend John Wooden was made a permanent part of the new Georgia Street plaza this week when sculptor Jeff Rouse, a graduate of the IU School of Dentistry, had his creation unveiled. The work was commissioned by the Super Bowl Host Committee and a group of Indianapolis-area patrons.

Sculptor Jeff Rouse joins his subject, Hoosier basketball icon John Wooden, in the first major public sculpture to grace Georgia Street.

Wooden will forever keep an eye on visitors to Georgia Street, home of the Super Bowl Village.
Rouse began work on the piece last September.
Creating the kneeling Wooden and the legs of five players was painstaking work.
So, too, was creating the sneakers which defined five major eras in Wooden's career.
That attention to detail was part of the vision admired by Mark Miles, head of the Super Bowl Host Committee.
The sneakers of the players captured the evolution of Wooden in his Hall of Fame career.
Rouse depicted Wooden's playing career, his start in coaching, two of his NCAA championship teams, and future players.
Members of the Wooden family, including children and grandchildren, were on hand for the unveiling.
The dental school grad, who has become a renowned sculptor, was inspired by the life and beliefs of the late coach.
The artist himself didn't see the full assembly of his creation until early March.
Wooden's core beliefs are embedded in the base of Rouse's sculpture.
