Mid-morning raindrops glistened on the paddles, but by day's end, the sun was shining again.
Banners and flags of all sorts decorated the half-mile course at the north end of the canal.
Chancellor Charles Bantz launched the action, equipped with a trusty air horn.
Competitors and fans wore a wide range of costumes, from 'geeks' ...
.. to pirates ...
Banners bearing previous competitors kept a watchful eye on the artists' work.
On the water, Jedi warriors paddled their way powered by 'the force' ...
Fast, competitive starts were the rule in the early heats ...
Face painting was all the rage, for all ages ...
Competing in Regatta is nothing if not fun, worthy of a laugh.
Whoever said two objects cannot occupy the same space obviously has never seen Regatta canoes in action ....
Many of the rowers' costumes were extraordinarily colorful, not to mention a bit unusual.
The day included dancing ...
Team exchanges, where one set of rowers leaves the canoe for their replacements, are particularly troublesome.
... which caused a few rowers to pay the (wet) price ...
Regatta rowing is hard work, especially in traffic.
Artists worked in all mediums to capture the essence of Regatta.
The art competition, including this year's winner, captures Regatta from many perspectives.
In the end, the IU School of Medicine's Team Gubernaculum crossed the final finish line in triumph ...
... and celebrated with the traditional team photo ...
... and the championship trophy.
