IUPUI students, faculty and staff joined forces once again Friday for the annual United Way Day of Caring, helping places in need of community support.

One team gets instruction for work at the Washington Irving Elementary School on the city's east side.
The workers dig in for groundskeeping tasks at the school.
Preparing a rock garden requires some hands-on treatment.
Even rocks suffer the occasional indignity of rejection.
Portions of the groundskeeping materials had to moved about the school grounds.
Sticks and stones ... all of it was vulnerable to being cast aside for the sake of scenic beauty.
Even hard work can offer some light-hearted moments.
Mounds of mulch had to be strewn about the grounds.
Workers also helped in a neighborhood near the famed Lucas Oil Stadium, which will host the 2012 Super Bowl.
Cleanliness is next to ... well, good neighborhoods.
The mulch will help the neighborhood blossom with new foliage.
Helping trees grow straight and tall can be a hands-on task.
The work was hot, but worthwhile for the volunteers.
When the missions reached the final stages, it was time to break out the smiles of accomplishment.
