For Will Hartzell-Baird, volunteering isn't all work - he likes to play, too. The Bepko Scholar, a sophomore in the school's computer science department, puts his game-playing skills to use - especially in chess - as he works with Indianapolis-area youngsters in need of role models, mentors and guidance.
The Warren Central High School graduate plans to follow in his father's career steps to become a software engineer. He's already putting his computer expertise to use, creating nearly half-a-dozen computer games of his own, with more on the way.
Will comes by his IUPUI connections honestly; his mother and sister attended IUPUI, and his sister Suzanna was a 2004 Chancellor's Scholars Award winner. In what spare time his academic achievements leave him, Will has been heavily involved in such campus activities as Dance Marathon 2005, the IUPUI Student Foundation and the IUPUI Honors Club, and is a member of two honor fraternities, Alpha Lambda Delta and Phi Eta Sigma.
