IU School Nursing
Nikki Murphy, a freshman in the IU School of Nursing and part of IUPUI's Diversity Scholars Research Program, is making the most of her first year of college, learning research skills as part of a major national grant investigating the most effective ways to use feeding tubes to help sustain the lives of infants and children early in their lives.
The South Bend native has a passion to help children and loves the idea of having an impact on the lives of those youngsters. Better still, she'll have an opportunity to publish findings of her own that will appear in professional nursing journals as she moves toward a career as a pediatric nurse or pediatric nurse practitioner.
To prepare for her publishing debut, Murphy has become a familiar face within the walls of the Ruth Lilly Medical Library at IUPUI, tapping the knowledge of generations of groundbreaking health-care experts, many of them from the IU School of Medicine.
In addition to stretching her academic wings, the South Bend Riley High School graduate is getting to know a new city, as well, making new friends, checking out the Indianapolis cultural scene as places like the Murat Theatre.
