Purdue School of Engineering & Technology
October 2005

With one major goal just completed this spring - graduation from the School of Engineering & Technology - Mark Svendsen decided to treat himself to something special before plunging headlong into graduate school in his alma mater: a trip to Scotland. Little did he know how special it would be.

Mark, one of IUPUI's "Top 10 Male Students" in 2004-05 and an avid golfer, made a pilgrimage to some of the sport's most historic venues during the trip - and as a bonus, met pro golfing legend Jack Nicklaus as the Golden Bear prepared for his last British Open.

The Lawrence North graduate has been involved in research projects that blend the fields of engineering and medicine in the performance of human hearts. A regular on the dean's list, Mark also has been a member of the IUPUI Honors program, was a member of IUPUI's moonbuggy team and received the "Outstanding Junior in Mechanical Engineering" award in 2004.
