IU Kelley School of Business
Le Hong used to spend free time sitting at a pottery wheel, turning a picture in her mind's eye into a tangible reality. But for the junior marketing major in the Kelley School of Business, her creative energies are now shaping bigger things: student life on the IUPUI campus.
In her first three years on campus, Le has plunged headfirst into college life, working with the popular OTEAM in student orientation, helping out the Kelley Student Council, and most of all, indulging her biggest campus passion: the IUPUI Student Foundation.
As a student foundation member, the Lawrence North graduate has helped plan and develop such traditional events as the Ultimate Frisbee competition, the IUPUI Turkey Toss, the Madden Video Game tournament, the annual Snow King & Queen celebration, and the IUPUI Dance Marathon. All raise funds for worthy causes, like the IUPUI-based Riley Hospital for Children and the IUPUI Jam the Jaguars Bus food drive at Thanksgiving.
Le's on-campus passions are about to go on hiatus, however; this spring, she's taking advantage of one of IUPUI's "study-abroad" opportunities to take classes at the University of Derby in Great Britain, about two hours north of London. Traveling thousands of miles to fulfill a dream is nothing new to Le, though. She was born in Vietnam and came to Indiana with her family at age 7. But in typical fashion, it didn't take long for her to immerse herself in local life, becoming a Hoosier through and through.
Ultimately, Le hopes to build a career in a college setting, working in athletics marketing or collegiate promotions, or in a nonprofit setting such as the IU Foundation-Indianapolis.
