David Schwarz, who ranked as IUPUI's top male student for 2003-04, will earn not one but two degrees in May 2005, one a bachelor's degree in the IU School of Public and Environmental Affairs (SPEA) and the other a master's degree in public affairs, also from SPEA.
The West Lafayette, Ind., native is a member of the National Dean's List and the Golden Key Honor Society. In addition to being the top male student, Schwarz also was a top 100 student in 2002-03. During the 2002-03 year, he was the top junior in the IUPUI Army ROTC.
His ROTC service - which came after he enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserves less than two weeks after 9/11 - is one example of his commitment to service and an active public life. He has volunteered regularly throughout his IUPUI career, working in such programs as "Make A Difference Day" and "Keep Indianapolis Beautiful," and has been an enthusiastic participant in improving campus life through his work with the IUPUI Undergraduate Student Assembly as a two-term senator representing SPEA, with the IU Faculty Council and the IUPUI Faculty Council.
He plans to pursue a Ph.D degree in either economics or social psychology.
