IUPUI School of Science
On the basketball court, Brooke McAfee regularly causes pain and consternation for Kangaroos (UMKC), Cougars (Chicago State), Grizzlies (Oakland) and Eagles (Oral Roberts). But when the Purdue School of Science senior graduates this spring and embarks on her grad school dream of becoming a veterinarian, Brooke promises she'll be much kinder to the non-mascot animal kingdom.
The Valparaiso High School alumna plans to take over the family business - she'd be a third-generation vet in the McAfee family - after four years of graduate school at West Lafayette. The slender senior and her Jaguar teammates had the best women's basketball season since IUPUI joined NCAA Division I, and Brooke herself won her second NCAA blocked-shot crown.
Brooke has ranked among IUPUI's top students throughout her years in Indianapolis, a necessity given the requirements to get into veterinary school. She has ranked as one of IUPUI's "Top 100" students in each of her last two years, was a Collegiate All-American Scholar in 2004-05 and is a three-time Academic All-Conference selection. She has been named to the IUPUI Academic Advisor's List every semester of her college career.
