Major sporting events

Indianapolis is known as the "Amateur Sports Capital of the World," and IUPUI's sporting facilities are a large reason for that.

The campus has hosted dozens of major competitions, including:

  • The US Open RCA Tennis Championships, which features the top stars in tennis each summer. Past participants have included Andy Roddick, James Blake and Andre Aggassi.
  • USA Track & Field Outdoor Championships
  • Major runs/walks, including the famed 500 Festival Mini-Marathon and Race for the Cure
  • 1987 Pan American Games, the western-hemisphere equivelant to the Olympic Games
