Overview Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs)- Basic and Paramedic—care for people at the scene of emergencies and transport them to hospitals or other health care institutions. EMTs (basic and paramedic) determine the nature and the extent of victims’ medical and trauma-related emergencies and provide initial emergency care. EMT-Paramedics administer medications, supply intravenous therapy, perform heart monitoring, and provide other life-saving interventions for the victims of acute illness or injury. The EMT-Basic is the entry level of the emergency medical field. The EMT-Paramedic is the advanced practitioner with more independence.
