| Overview | † Administered with the approval of Purdue University, West Lafayette The Department of Mechanical Engineering offers programs at the bachelor's, master's, and doctoral levels. At the bachelor's level, programs described here lead to the Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (B.S.M.E.) and to the Bachelor of Science in Engineering (B.S.E.), an interdisciplinary degree. Students enrolled in the department study under full-time faculty actively engaged in research in a variety of areas: biomechanics, combustion, composites, computational fluid dynamics, computer-aided design, control, elasticity, experimental mechanics, fluid mechanics, finite element methods, fracture, heat transfer, manufacturing, robotics, solid and structural mechanics, stress analysis, turbomachinery, and vibration. Part-time employment is available to students in the research laboratories of the department. Such experience enhances course work and is particularly valuable to those who later undertake graduate study. |
