Chancellor Charles Bantz

Chancellor's Newsletter

The chancellor's newsletter is mailed to more than 3,000 business, education, and community leaders in the Indianapolis region to describe IUPUI events and activities of interest to people outside the university. For more than 25 years, the Chancellor's newsletter has reported on IUPUI's programs, potential, and progress. In October 1996, the letters began appearing on IUPUI's web site and are available in the online archive. Back issues of the printed newsletter are available at the IUPUI University Library, Ruth Lilly Special Collections and Archives.

The first chancellor's newsletter was mailed in December 1976 during the administration of IUPUI Chancellor Glenn W. Irwin, Jr. It has appeared regularly ever since, generally on a monthly basis. In the opening paragraphs of the December 1976 letter, Chancellor Irwin wrote:

When the next generation of historians writes about our city, I think they will describe the development of this campus as one of the events . . . as one of the critical events . . . which gave Indianapolis its distinctive quality of life. I can already see the shape of this future in our present. And I want you to know about our campus.
The newsletter today remains true to its purpose.
