Welcome to Indiana University - Purdue University Indianapolis.

Chancellor Charles R. Bantz IUPUI is an outstanding research university - a 21st century model for urban higher education. We have more than 185 academic programs - from associate degrees to doctoral and professional degrees - the most comprehensive range in the state.

We welcome students from India as well as Indianapolis, with more than 30,000 students coming from all over the world, all 50 states, and all 92 Indiana counties. One of five colleges and universities in Indianapolis, IUPUI is located just west of downtown Indianapolis, with easy access to city and state centers of government, business, and arts. This ideal location opens a host of options for internships and employment. Amenities including restaurants, sports venues, parks, galleries, museums, the White River Gardens, and Indianapolis Zoo are within a short walking distance of campus.

We're a campus that thrives on close connections with our city. You'll find distinctive academic programs that take advantage of both our IU/Purdue connections and our urban location - programs such as museum studies; music technology and performance; health services administration; and hotel, conventions, and tourism management. Many IUPUI students participate in community service projects linked with academic course work or on research teams bent on discovering new solutions to issues that are important to our community, state, and nation. Several state, county, and federal hospitals and dozens of clinics and research centers that are part of the IU Medical Center at IUPUI contribute to a rich array of health-related courses of study and clinical experiences.

Our faculty lead the world in research from the life sciences to the liberal arts; in the professions of medicine, health and rehabilitation sciences, dentistry, law, nursing, education, journalism, and social work; and in interdisciplinary collaborations on studies in philanthropy, urban policy, the environment, biomedical engineering, cancer research, informatics, and more.

IUPUI continues to be on the cutting edge of information technology access, beginning in 1992 with our "built-for-the-future" University Library. Today, wireless laptop connections are all over campus. The Network Operations Center for the Abilene Network, the Next Generation Internet, is located at IUPUI, making Indianapolis a true "Crossroads of America" for global connectivity.

Teaching and learning are central to campus life. Our faculty have developed award-winning programs that help students be successful in achieving their academic goals. In fact, IUPUI is nationally recognized for providing effective first-year experiences for students. Our Learning Communities, for example, were ranked 7th nationally in U.S. News & World Report's recent listing of "outstanding academic programs that lead to student success." IUPUI's commitment to civic engagement was also recognized in the same issue when our service learning programs placed 8th in the nation.
