Project Two Portfolio

  • The Secondary Research Cluster includes all assignments from Sequences 1 & 2 (see below). Due approximately two months after classes begin.


  • The Primary Research Cluster includes all assignments from Sequence 3 (see below). Due approximately three months after classes begin.

      Sequence 3:

      6) Research Tool (and Data Analysis)

      7) Recommendation Report


       

  • The remaining assignments complete Project Two.

  • The Final Portfolio includes five of the Project Two documents from Sequence 1, 2 and 3 (revised according to peer and instructor feedback) and other items to be announced. The Literature, Recommendation Report and Performance Review are required. The other two pieces may be chosen from remaining asssignments. Due the final day that the class meets. The Rubric below may be used by W231 instructors, or may be adapted to fit classroom instruction.

Write and present reports & correspondence comparable to effectively written documents in nonacademic settings, evidenced by the ability to:

1. Make purpose and audience for writing apparent in the document.

 

2. Use only relevant content.

 

3. Use conventional formats correctly, designing accessible, inviting documents with adequate headings & white space.

 

4. Use clear, concise writing style appropriate for the rhetorical situation.

 

5. Control the technical elements of sentence structure, grammar, and punctuation.

 

6. Demonstrate the reader-centered approach to all documents.

 

7. Share project objectives and outcomes in a coherent oral presentation, using visuals effectively.

Recognize and value learning about professional writing and individual writing process, evidenced by the ability to:

1. Apply analytical skills to own writing and process to determine change and assess growth.

Write reports that analyze and synthesize data to fulfill a previously defined purpose for a designated audience, evidenced by the ability to:

1. Establish for readers the relative credibility of sources.

 

2. Synthesize sources in the review of the literature, organizing documents by issues & main ideas rather than by source.

 

3. Establish and sustain focus on the literature in the literature review, with clear topic sentences beginning each paragraph.

 

4. Acknowledge conflicting evidence and counter argument while maintaining objectivity.

 

5. Integrate sources smoothly with appropriate signal phrases.

 

6. Document sources fully and correctly in-text and on the references page.

 

7. Apply research findings to a local problem situation.

 

8. Use a wide variety of recently published, authoritative, relevant sources.

 

9. Develop reports with an appropriate degree of detail and to the expected length.

 

10. Organize content coherently to lead readers through the discussion to the conclusions.

 
11. Ensure that the conclusions and recommendations are supported by the facts presented.  

12. Write in a manner that convinces readers to accept conclusions as reasonable & accurate.

5. Write open-ended interview questions to solicit relevant background information and expert opinion.

 

6. Summarize, critically evaluate, and apply data to the problem investigated.
