Professor Carlyn Johnson will describe “Success
by 6” an exciting new initiative sponsored by the
Indianapolis Mayor’s Office, the United Way of
Central Indiana, and the Annie E. Casey Foundation.
The program is designed to supply the “1000 hours of lap time”
– close to an adult—that children need from birth to
age 5 in order to acquire the necessary language, cognitive and
emotional skills essential for educational success. Carlyn, chair
of the “Success by 6 Early Literacy Committee”
will tell us how these goals can be accomplished using “The
Imagination Library”, a Dollywood Foundation
program that gets hard cover books like “The little Engine
that Could” and “Goodnight Moon”
into the hands of children and their mentors.
