R&SP Issues IUPUI 2000-2001 Award Report
The past fiscal year has been a spectacular one for sponsored funding for the IUPUI campus. Total award income, including the INGEN award from the Lilly Endowment, was $295.5 million which is an 80% increase over the previous year. Not counting the INGEN award, the total sponsored funding was $190.5 million which represents a 15.8% growth. These striking numbers are a result of many of the schools having a banner year. Additional NIH Grant Application Guidelines
The August issue of the R&SP Communicator introduced guidelines from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for the format of grant applications. Recently, NIH indicated that a problem might occur if the applicant uses the Times New Roman font in a grant application. Often the Times New Roman font, characters per inch and point size, will not display correctly within the grant application. NIH recommends using Arial or Helvitica font instead of Times New Roman font to avoid format problems. Please share this information with faculty and administrators in your school and emphasize the importance of complying with the NIH format requirements. See the R&SP Communicator Archives to view the original article http://www.iupui.edu/~rspcommu/nl-august-01.htm.

October 1 -- MAJOR Proposal Deadline!
Historically October 1 is the busiest deadline of the year. While most faculty are aware that it is the deadline for new proposals to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), October 1 is also a deadline for many other agencies. Again this year we are expecting the number of applications submitted to be larger than ever. Research and Sponsored Programs normally requires three (3) full working days to process a proposal. In order to be able to handle the large number of applications expected, we request that proposals be received by our office no later than September 21, 2001. At a minimum, an advanced copy of the budget and a draft of the Route Sheet should be submitted by this date. Proposals received after September 21 run an increased risk of missing the deadline. Applications will be processed in the order received.
