Preparation Just as in manuscript publication, proposal writing is the faculty member's responsibility. However, the Research and Sponsored Programs staff is prepared to provide suggestions and assistance. They will work with you one-to-one on project development issues, determining whether a particular funding agency is the most appropriate target, timelines, budget preparation, narrative critiques, format, and qualifications. In addition, we can assist you with demonstrating the potential significance of your project to the school and campus research missions. If a funding agency provides guidelines and/or application forms to be used when applying for funds, be sure to follow them. If they are not provided or they are not explicit, contact Research and Sponsored Programs to request a copy of Organizing the Grant Request: An Exercise in Thoughtful Persuasion. It presents a model format which may be used, especially with research projects. This model is provided as a means of suggesting some basics which should be included in most proposals. It does not describe everything which might be required for success in certain situations, nor is it a rigid formula and should be modified to fit the requirements unique to each proposal. |
