Correction: Criteria for Maximum Blood Draws

The R&SP Communicator regrets any confusion generated in our March, 2002 - Issue 3 regarding the article Criteria for Maximum Blood Draws. The following information provides clarification:

In general, the amount of blood to be drawn over an 8-week period during a research study should not exceed 10.5 ml/kg. In studies where the blood draw is to be greater than or equal to 10.5 ml/kg in 8-weeks (for all studies for which the patient participates in that 8-weeks), then patients with known hemoglobin less than 12.5 mg/dl should be excluded unless rationale is otherwise given and full Institutional Review Board (IRB) review is obtained.

Additional concerns should be directed to the Research Compliance office: E-mail resrisk@iupui.edu or call 274-8289.

Reminder: New NIH Forms and Instructions in Effect

The IUPUI Research and Sponsored Programs office no longer provides paper or hard copies of National Institutes of Health (NIH) forms. Please download the current version of the forms and instructions each time you submit a proposal. The links to these forms are available at http://grants.nih.gov/grants/forms.htm.
