| October
1 -- MAJOR Proposal Deadline! Historically October 1 is the busiest proposal deadline of the year. While most faculty are aware that it is the deadline for new proposals to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), October 1 is also a deadline for many other agencies. Again this year, the number of applications submitted is expected to be larger than ever. Research and Sponsored Programs normally requires three (3) full working days to process a proposal. In order to be able to handle the large number of applications anticipated, we request that proposals be received by our office no later than September 24, 2004. As an alternative, faculty can use the partial proposal option described in the January issue of the Communicator (http://www.iupui.edu/%7Erspcommu/2004/nl-january-04.htm). Please note that all proposals are processed in the order received. Complete Details NSF Publishes Revised Grant Proposal Guide The National Science Foundation (NSF) has published a revised version of the NSF Grant Proposal Guide (GPG) that will be effective for proposals submitted on or after September 1, 2004. This document supercedes all prior versions of the GPG and can be accessed at: http://www.nsf.gov/pubsys/ods/getpub.cfm?gpg. AHRQ Announces Limit On Large Research Grant Applications The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) has announced that they are implementing a budget limit of $300,000 total costs (direct plus indirect) per year for large research grant applications. This limitation is effective beginning October 1, 2004. For full details, see the announcement at http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-HS-04-007.html. |

Announces Oct 15 Internal Funding Deadline and Revised Guidelines An overview of Research and Sponsored Programs (R&SP) current internal grants for two international programs is available by clicking on Complete Details below. Please note that the guidelines have been revised to include additional terms of eligibility and clearer language on restrictions and conditions. Applications submitted using old guidelines will not be eligible for review. To access the full project descriptions and application guidelines for the following grant programs, visit the R&SP grants Web site (http://www.iupui.edu/%7Eresgrad/spon/funding-university.htm). Please direct all inquiries regarding these opportunities to Etta Ward, Sponsored Program Development, at 317.278.8427 or emward@iupui.edu. Complete Details OPD Announces Oct 15 Internal Funding Deadline and Revised Terms of Eligibility An overview of Office for Professional Development (OPD) grant programs is available by clicking on Complete Details below. Please note that additional terms of eligibility have been included in the guidelines for the grant-in-aid programs. Applicants who have previously received an OPD grant will be required to wait at least three years before applying to that same grant program again. However, the applicant may continue to apply to any other appropriate OPD grant program for which they have not yet received funding. Since an applicant can only receive funding for one OPD grant program in a given round, a funding preference order must be indicated on the internal grant face page/routing form for each separate submission. To access the full project descriptions and application guidelines for all of the grant programs, visit the OPD grants Web site (http://opd.iupui.edu/grants/guidelines.htm). Please direct all inquiries regarding these opportunities to Etta Ward, Sponsored Program Development, at 317.278.8427 or emward@iupui.edu. Complete Details |

SOP Under Development to Clarify Specimen-Banking Protocols and the IRB
Requirements IUPUI/Clarian IRBs research study submissions involving the banking of subject specimens (i.e., blood, tissue, etc.) are increasing in number. The IRBs have considered the issues of de-identification, confidentiality protections, and appropriate consenting procedures with respect to these studies because The Common Rule (i.e., 45 CFR 46) and HIPAA differ with respect to what subjects must be told about the future uses of their samples when they agree to participation. As a result, a new SOP is under development to address these issues. Complete Details |
