Our Humble Beginnings |

IUPUI Crew was formed April 21st, 2003 to organize a successful rowing team to represent IUPUI. The goals of IUPUI Crew are to be competitive in collegiate rowing, reflect the diversity of students on the IUPUI campus, and to enrich the community of Indianapolis.
The first American intercollegiate sporting event was the 1852
Harvard-Yale boat race. Today, rowing has become one of the fastest growing and
most competitive segments of intercollegiate athletics. While competing against
universities with strong rowing traditions, the newly formed
IUPUI Crew team will quickly become one of
the most competitive rowing programs in the nation.
Aside from establishing and maintaining a competitive team, IUPUI Crew has a strong desire to create a
program that is unlike any other. By actively building a program that reflects
the diversity of the campus, IUPUI
Crew is going to be one of the most progressive athletic programs in the nation.
The positive impact of the IUPUI
Crew program will extend far beyond the university and the members of the team.
Already, we have established goals that will enrich the greater Indianapolis
community. Some of these goals include:
Summer outreach camps that will introduce rowing to segments of our population
that wouldn't normally have the opportunity to row
Promoting the sport of rowing on the White River. We believe that rowing near
the IUPUI campus, the NCAA headquarters, and White River State
Park would be a tremendous boost to the aesthetic development of the city.
Creating partnerships with local environmental organizations. The members of the IUPUI Crew Team would actively
maintain the cleanliness of OUR stretch of the White River.
With a truly progressive program in sight, we would like to ask for your
assistance in building our membership. The IUPUI
Crew (A.K.A. Rowing Club) is looking for competitive athletes who are interested
in becoming our founding members. If you are an IUPUI
student, and are ready to show dedication and positive activity on campus, this
would be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for you to add more experiences to
your college career.
