Financial Documentation Requirements
The documents that you must provide vary depending on they type of funding support you have.
If you have more than one source of support, each sponsor must complete the appropriate Financial
Support Agreement form on your behalf.
Funding from sponsor other than applicant (Family, Friends and/or Organization Funds):
All financial sponsors must complete page 2 of the Financial Support Agreement form or provide an
equivalent formal statement of sponsorship. Total sponsor support must cover the entire duration of
your studies at IUPUI: at least two years for an associate’s degree or four years for a bachelor’s
degree.
Sponsor (Family or Friend): Each sponsor must provide evidence of sufficient funds for at least the
first year of the applicant’s study plus verification of income as evidence of sufficient funding to
cover the remaining year(s) of promised support.
If you will be living with family or friends in the Indianapolis area while attending IUPUI,
your host should indicate the specific level of support provided towards your living expenses and the
number of years the support is offered.
Sponsor (Organization): A promise of sponsorship can be stated on the sponsoring organization's
letterhead. The statement should include the duration of sponsorship including the guaranteed dollar
amount for a specified period of years or for the duration of study. Alternatively, the statement can
specify the specific type of support provided (i.e. Housing)
Funding from applicant’s personal finances (Self):
As the applicant, you must complete page 2 of the Financial Support Agreement form. If you are providing
bank statements that are in your own name only, you must show enough funds on deposit for the duration of
your studies (for a bachelor’s degree, Total Cost X 4).
U.S. Immigration rules limit the employment of immigrant international students and their family members.
IUPUI offers many on-campus work opportunities, but work hours are restricted to 20 hours per week and jobs
are not guaranteed. Therefore, you cannot plan to use employment as a primary means of supporting yourself
while enrolled at IUPUI.
If your documented personal finances are not sufficient to cover the entire duration of study, you must
provide evidence of ongoing income, such as a letter from an employer or other sponsor that promises funding
for your remaining study. Sponsor support agreements to cover the remaining shortfall must meet the guidelines
described in the box to the left.
Funding from applicant’s personal finances and other funds:
If you will be partially self-supported and partially supported through other sources, your
personal bank statement must show the total of your contribution for the length of your degree.
Your sponsor’s bank statement needs to show enough money on deposit to cover the promised support
for the first year.
