15. Summer Is No Excuse To Stop Learning
Members of IUPUI’s Secondary Urban Educators (SUE) and teenagers from Hawthorne Community Center are keeping their brains in shape this summer. The 2 organizations are collaborating to provide valuable learning opportunities for both the college students and the teens. The teenagers come to IUPUI a total of 4 times over the course of June and July to learn about IUPUI’s campus and the college experience, by practicing valuable academic skills such as reading and writing. IUPUI students benefit as well by getting opportunities to practice what they have been learning throughout the school year in the IU School of Education, Indianapolis. In addition to the Hawthorne teens coming to campus, IUPUI students are also given opportunities to teach lessons offsite at the community center. Lessons relate to field trips that the teens take through the Teen Club. It is not too late to participate in this unique opportunity. These learning opportunities are open to all IUPUI students, not just those in the School of Education. There are two more opportunities for on-campus participation: July 3rd and July 17th from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. If you are interested in participating, please send an email to sueatiupui@yahoo.com.
