IUPUI/ICIC-Tsuda
College

Intensive
Summer English Program

The collaboration between Tsuda
College, Japan's first institution of higher learning for
women, ICIC and IUPUI began in 1994. Since that time, every summer,
between 12 and 29 young English students visit the IUPUI campus and
spend three weeks in a total immersion program learning about American
culture and studying academic English. In recent years this program
has included homestays with a variety of families in Indianapolis,
Indiana. Students spend quality time with their families and other IUPUI students, travel
around Indianapolis and visit Chicago to take part in various cultural
events. At home and in class they develop their listening and speaking
abilities, but also spend time reading and writing and using computers
to produce final oral presentations concerning vital American social
issues. They receive three credits from their home college upon
return.
