English Language and Linguistic Courses

IUPUI offers a Master of Arts in English as well as a Teaching English as a Second Language (TESOL) certificate. Visit the IUPUI Department of English website for course offerings and program requirements.

English for Specific Purposes Institute

This year's English for Specific Purposes (ESP) Institute will be held July 21-August 1, 2008. The ESP Institute is an intensive, two-week institute introducing ESL practitioners and English language educators to English for Specific Purposes. The two courses offered include: Linguistics T600: Introduction to ESP and English and G541: Materials Development for TESOL.

Joan and Larry Cimino Award for Excellence in Intercultural Communication

ICIC awards up to $500 to the best paper and/or thesis on intercultural communication submitted by a student enrolled in a graduate course in a degree program in the IUPUI School of Liberal Arts each year. The understanding between and among disparate cultures has challenged humankind throughout history; and clearly, communication and intercultural communication, is a key element in achieving understanding. The award is based on a belief that a disciplined approach to the study of intercultural communication can provide valuable insights toward achieving understanding among cultures.

This year's award submissions are due February 1, 2008.
