9th Annual English for Specific Purposes Institute
July 21-August 1, 2008
The Indiana Center for Intercultural Communication has trained over 500 people in English for Specific Purposes (ESP) in the last 10 years, and over 100 of these have been U.S. and international ESL and EFL teachers trained through the center's annual ESP Institute.
In addition to IUPUI and other U.S. university students that attend this two-week, seven-university credit institute, the ESP Institute has included teachers, administrators, and other professionals from Austria, Chile, Egypt, Finland, Macedonia, Mexico, Peru, Saudi Arabia, and Spain.
The institute is designed to develop teachers' skills in designing and implementing programs and courses in English as a Second Language. The institute fosters the acquisition of the skills and knowledge base to set up a basic ESP program (needs analysis, syllabus and course design, materials development, program implementation, evaluation).
