BRIDGES TO THE DOCTORATE

A partnership between IUPUI  and Jackson State University

Bridges Mentors - IUPUI

Bridges Students may select their mentor from a large array of IUPUI faculty members.  The faculty are members of the following departments: Anatomy and Cell Biology, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Medical and Molecular Genetics; Microbiology and Immunology; Pharmacology and Toxicology; Physiology and Biophysics; Pathology and Laboratory Medicine.

The mentors all have excellent research track records with an national/international reputation.

Janice Blum, Ph.D.
Department of Microbiology & Immunology

-REGULATION OF HUMAN IMMUNE RESPONSES TO TUMORS, PATHOGENS AND AUTOIMMUNITY DISEASES

- Immune responsiveness in humans and its role to protective immunity to tumors and  pathogens as well as susceptibility to autoimmune disease.

Hal E. Broxmeyer,
Department of Microbiology & Immunology

Lymphocytes, monocytes, and dendritic mechanisms regulating the growth, survival and homing/mobilization of hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells at cellular, intracellular, and animal levels.

- Studies the regulation of blood cell development (Hematopoiesis).  This involves research on the proliferation, self-renewal, survival, homing and mobilization of hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells and their modulation by cytokines/chemokines both in vitro and in vivo, and the intracellular mechanisms involved.  Lab members also study development and differentiation of T-lymphocytes and dendritic cells.

Randy R. Brutkiewicz, Ph.D.
Department of Microbiology & Immunology

David B. Burr, Ph.D.,
Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology
